5 Kate Middleton Fashion Moments Inspired by Princess Diana

It appears that with the title of Princess of Wales comes with some serious sartorial style cred with both Kate and Diana rarely putting a fashion foot wrong. Combing the archives we noticed that Kate often makes a nod to the late Princess Diana with her take on some of Diana’s most memorable fashion moments. Here are 5 Kate Middleton fashion moments inspired by Princess Diana.

1. Bond Girls

Kate’s gold Jenny Packham gown at the premiere of Bond film, No Time To Die, had fashionistas across the globe swooning over its glamourous, sparkling perfection. The gathered waist, deep V-neck and metallic shine was reminiscent of Diana’s look at the premiere of another Bond film, A View to Kill, in 1985.

2. Green Dreams

When Kate stepped out at the Earthshot ceremony in Boston in early December 2022 in a green off-the shoulder dress rented from HURR by Solace London, it was a clear nod to Princess Diana’s look from 1993. Kate paired her look with a priceless emerald and diamond choker necklace from the Royal archives also worn on numerous occasions by Diana.

3. Sporting Polka Dots

Kate was a vision in Alessandra Rich polka dots in June 2022 at Royal Ascot, and while we got flashbacks to Julia Robert’s iconic polo dress from Pretty Woman, it was Princess Diana’s look from Ascot in 1988 that Kate took her fashion inspiration from.

4. Grecian Style

When Kate stepped out in Los Angeles in 2011 for a BAFTA event in this lilac Alexander McQueen Grecian-inspired number the world took notice. Years earlier Diana had the same effect when she graced the Cannes red carpet in 1987 in a Catherine Walker ice-blue floaty tulle gown.

5. The Cold Shoulder

Kate’s 2019 BAFTA awards white one-shouldered gown was reminiscent of Princess Diana’s Gina Fratini gown worn to the ballet in Rio de Janeiro, right down to the satin clutch and white pump heels.
