Alex Reviews the Dyson Airwrap

When the Dyson Airwrap first made its way on to shelves in late 2018 I laughed, I scoffed, I told anyone who would listen that no one would pay $800AUD for a fancy curling wand. Well now it’s late 2019, and I sit, eating my own words as I cradle my Airwrap in my arms and rock it back and forth like a newborn.

JK that’s weird, but I do own it, and I do freaking love it!

Now I paid for the Airwrap with my very own money, I shelled out some serious Dollarydoos for this baby in the recent Adore Beauty sale and hot damn, she’s worth every penny. If I felt I had the Instagram following to support this kind of behaviour, all my posts would be Airwrap before and afters.

I thought day-to-day that I would be using the Airwrap for curls, but much like the two other women in my life with an Airwrap, I use it as a hairdryer/straightener in one. While Dyson may be using the curl feature as a sales gimmick, I think that if they did their market research more thoroughly, they’d see a lot more value in the curly-to-straight market.

The best example of the Airwrap’s value, for me, is in how quickly it takes my thick hair from wet-and-wavy to straight-and-dry. It comes with the bonus of genuinely feeling like a blowdry too, with a bouncy, fresh feeling to your style.

But I wanted to put the Airwrap to the test, in a tense, fraught, military-style situation. It’s all well and good to turn my waves into bounce; but how would it go with full-blown curls? Enter, Clare. Now Clare’s hair has been the envy of women since I met her in High School, her golden curls are the stuff of dreams. So how did the Dyson fair against 2C/3A Curls?

Turns out surprisingly well! This whole thing took less than 40 minutes, was relatively painless, and my arm wasn’t dead by the end of it. We used the Airwrap in conjunction with a couple of evo products for heat protection and shine, and the results speak for themselves!

What ended up being my favourite part of the whole experience was the ability to run my hands through Clare’s hair. We’ve been close friends for like 15 years, and I don’t think I’ve ever been able to do that before.

So for me, the Airwrap is a big old 8/10. Would buy again, the price is a killer, but if you can afford it then go for it!
