A hedonist’s dream and party island of the world – Ibiza’s reputation precedes it but there is much more to this town that pretty people and Pacha nightclub. The lovely harbour, endless sunshine, beautiful beaches, great shopping and the historic old town of Dalt Vila make it well worth a visit even if the thought of partying has you running for the hills.
Ibiza Town (also known as Eivissa) is the capital of Ibiza and is located on the east coast of the island. The town is split in to two areas – Dalt Vila (the old town) and the new town which are separated by Marina Botafoch, which is home to world class restaurants and clubs.
Wandering through the steep, cobbled laneways of Dalt Vila is like taking a step back in time. It has a rich cultural history and in the late 1990’s was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. There are plenty of atmospheric restaurants, bars and cafes to explore ( try La Dispensa or La Oliva) and some of the best dolce du leche gelato we have ever tasted.
There is a cathedral, a monestery and museums to visit but our favourite thing to do is simply wander through the bougainvillaea-scented back streets discovering little laneways and cafes (and the friendly odd local dog!) along the way. The walk to the top of Dalt Vila is quite steep so be prepared for a hike and wear practical shoes but the views back across the coastline and town are definitely worth it.
After a wander through Dalt Vila you can head back down to Figueretas beach for a relaxing afternoon of sea, sand and sunshine. Along the promenade there are also some excellent restaurants and cafes where you can almost dip your toes in the sea while you are dining.
Of course being Ibiza when the sun goes down there are plenty of places to party, but if a more peaceful stay is your thing we recommend visiting Ibiza Town for a day trip but staying in a quieter part of the island, such as the beautiful village of Santa Eularia des Riu.
If you are visiting Ibiza a boat ride to the laid back island of Formentera is also a must (new blog post on this coming soon!).
Whether you are in Ibiza to party away the summer or simply to enjoy the magic of the beautiful Balearic Islands, add Ibiza Town to your itinerary – you won’t be disappointed.

Those scallops!
So nice to see another side to the party island I frequented almost 20 years ago now. Wow that makes me feel old – but I doubt it’s changed too much 😊
