Escape: Trentham – Victoria, Australia

A little over an hour from Melbourne, nestled between the townships of Woodend and Daylesford, is the little village of Trentham. For a town of under 2,000 residents it packs a punch with beautiful food, cute stores and a historic pub. It is the perfect place to explore on a stopover to the spa country, as an easy day trip from Melbourne or for a cosy, peaceful weekend away. 

There are plenty of bushwalking and cycling opportunities and very close by are the Trentham Falls, Victoria’s longest single drop waterfall. The town itself is very charming, built on the fortunes of the gold rush it boasts cute cottages and plenty of historic buildings.

Local produce and gourmet treats are plentiful, including Annie Smithers acclaimed restaurant ‘Du Fermier’, Red Beard Bakery (delicious artisan breads) and The Trentham Collective among others.

There are gorgeous antique stores and little boutiques plus our favourite store in the region, Phillip & Lea, which stocks an impressive range of Staub and Mauviel products (including copper cookware) plus a myriad of other beautiful, high quality kitchen, garden and outdoor products.

The town is lovely any time of year but being a a cool climate region our favourite time is late Autumn when you can cosy up by an open fire with a glass of local wine after a brisk country walk.

ELE top tip- be sure not to miss the other great towns in the region, including Piper Street in Kyneton which is another historic area home to an impressive range of restaurants and shops.
