What To Do in Varenna, Lake Como, Italy

Perched on the picturesque shores of Lake Como is the beautiful town of Varenna, a quaint fishing village that captures the romance and beauty of the Italian Lakes region.

The village is approximately 60km north of Milan and is easily accessible by train with the station only a short walk (though very steep!) from the centre of the town.

Varenna Train Station

The village itself is full of pretty laneways and a foreshore dotted with restaurants, boutique shops and gelaterias. There is a beautiful walk along the lake coming from the station in to town under a pretty botanical archway.

Varenna is quieter and less glitzy than nearby Bellagio which makes it the perfect spot to base yourself on Lake Como if you are looking for a more peaceful stay. Bellagio, Menaggio and other Como towns are easily accessible by ferries that run regularly throughout the day.

There are a number of hotels in the town and pretty apartments available to rent overlooking the lake. Plenty of restaurants serve up delicious Italian food (we love to get pizza and sit down by the lake in the sunshine).

Any time of the year is lovely to visit, however the summer peak season can be very busy and in winter many services and hotels will be closed down for the colder months. For more information visit Varenna Italy
