Live: Healing Benefits of the Sea

It is well documented that being by the ocean is good for our health – sea, salt and sand are powerful natural elixirs for many of us. Whether it is the healing minerals of salty seawater, the relaxing, melodic rhythm of rolling waves, vitamin D from the sun or just the fact that it is relaxing for the mind to be away from the stresses of everyday life a break by the ocean is guaranteed to lift your spirits.

For those of us who are lucky enough to live by the seaside the day to day benefits are easy to enjoy, however for the rest of us there are a few things we can do to replicate a coastal break at home.

1. Get more magnesium in our diets. Dark Chocolate, avocado, legumes, soybeans, whole grains and spinach are all high in magnesium which is found naturally in the ocean so try to incorporate them in to your daily diet. We also love Ancient Minerals Magnesium Gel which is absorbed directly in to the skin for a high quality daily magnesium dose.

2. Many of us are deficient in Vitamin D – getting ten minutes a day of sunshine on bare skin is a great way to get your daily dose, however if you prefer to avoid the sun at all costs then try a quality Vitamin D supplement.

3. Try a relaxation app to duplicate the sound of the ocean – there are plenty of apps to download which replicate the sound of crashing waves against the seashore which are also a great way to help induce sleep.

4. Seawater has healing benefits for many people suffering from a range of skin conditions and while it is difficult to bathe in seawater at home we love natural skin care products like Moo Goo to combat a range of skin problems.

5. Sand is a great natural exfoliator but if you can’t get a beach fix any time soon get your skin glowing with Ren Atlantic Kelp and Magnesium Salt Scrub.

  1. Awesome post – but would add a low dose mix of calcium supplements – the synergy of magnesium d3 and calcium is important – and some add a bit of zinc – but really – we have been having the magnesium for a while and found the calcium enriched it

  2. Just looking at your post kind of put me in that wonderful beach zone. Thanks! 🙂

  3. Lovely pictures! So refreshing!
Here we have Lake Superior. My husband and I just can’t get enough of it.

  4. Great post and makes me feel very lucky to live only a few steps from the ocean 🌊
