If you are in the process of moving – congratulations! Whether you are going to be renting a new space or buying a home for yourself, moving is always exciting. It’s the start of a new chapter, a place you can make your new home and have countless memories in.

When moving, the trick is to be as planned as possible. The more planned you are, the less stressful the experience will be and in a lot of ways it can be cheaper as well. If you are super organised, you tend to be able to get advanced prices, which are cheaper. It also gives you the chance to shop around, instead of panic booking the first thing you see.

To help you with your move, here are a few things to consider when moving to a new home.

Maintenance work to be carried out

Before moving, it’s wise to ask the people currently living there what maintenance work needs to be carried out on the property. Some things may be urgent, such as getting in a plumber, other work that may need to be carried out could be minor, such as needing the fences painted. The more information you know on this, the easier it can be to budget for it as you can put all the numbers in your spreadsheet, so you can keep track of your spending.

Booking your removals company

The majority of the time you are going to need a moving company to help you with the move – especially if you are moving from a big property with a lot of rooms. Try to book a removals company as soon as possible as this will mean you get the best price and you get to go with your chosen company. A lot of the time they get booked up near moving dates, meaning if you leave it last minute, you may have to pick the only company that has space. Before booking, always look at their online reviews to check they are reputable as you only want to use a reputable company to help you move to your new home

Getting rid of any clutter

We all collect clutter over the years, which is why it’s a good idea to go through all your stuff before you move and get rid of anything you no longer need. Try to be ruthless, and ask a friend to help you as they will help you be even more ruthless, especially if you prewarn them that you would like them to be strict. A useful way to stay with getting rid of junk is to go room by room, they way it’s more manageable and you don’t have your whole property in a mess. If you do every room at once, it can very quickly become unmanageable and stressful which you want to try and avoid.
