Moving is a great achievement and is something you should be proud of. For most people, it takes years of dedication and hard work to be able to buy their first property, and any property after that.
Once you know you are moving and everything is ready to go, there are a few things that you should start thinking about to get organised for the move. By getting things booked in early, it will help reduce some of the stress (unfortunately, moving is stressful and you can’t remove it all), and it can save you some money as a lot of companies will offer advanced rates – last minute is often when it’s more expensive. For example, the sooner you book your removals, the more likely it is that you will get the company you want to work with to help.
Below are three things to organise as soon as you know you are moving.
Arrange your removal company
One of the first things you should tick off your list is booking a removal company. Reputable firms can get booked up weeks or even months in advance, particularly during the summer and school holidays. By getting this booked in as soon as possible, you will hopefully get a good price as well as have it ticked off your list of things to do. When looking for a removal company, always read their online reviews, as this gives you a good indication on if they are reputable or not – TrustPilot or Checkatrade are two good places to look.
Think about storage options
Sometimes moving dates don’t line up perfectly with your current property and new property, or you simply have more belongings than you have room for in your new home – this happens a lot if you are downsizing. If this is something you think will happen to you, getting your storage options sorted as soon as possible, means you can get a storage space close to where you are going to live, instead of that being sold out and you having to travel far to get to one.
Start getting rid of any clutter
Moving home is the perfect excuse to have a good clear-out. The less you have to move, the easier it will be when it comes to your moving day. We are all guilty of collecting too much over the years, so plan a good clear out where you are strict and go through all the things you own. The best thing to do to be most efficient is to ask a friend to help as they will be strict and make sure you are not keeping things that you won’t need in the future.
As you can imagine, there are plenty of things that you can start working on to help you feel more organised. Which of the three things have you already done? Is there a tip which you would like to share that we haven’t included? Let us know in the comment box below. We look forward to hearing from you.
