Dream Destination – Cocoa Island, The Maldives

We may not be travelling overseas as much as we want to at the moment but we are definitely dreaming about the freedom of international travel and a visit to the beautiful Cocoa Island resort in the Maldives.

Opened in 2002 as COMO Hotels and Resorts’ first private island resort, Cocoa Island is a little slice Maldives heaven. The resort boasts 33 private overwater bungalows located on the South Male atoll. Serenity and privacy combined with laidback luxury are what sets Cocoa apart from other island escapes.

The resort style is deliberately restrained, a simple yet sophisticated mix of contemporary and indigenous. Some of the rooms types occupy ‘dhoni’ boats, based on the designs used by Maldivian fishermen.

The resort looks out towards calm, clear blue waters, and the island is long and thin, with sand snaking out into a perfect spit that disappears with the evening tide.

In 2019, the resort underwent a renovation and under the careful eye of Singapore-based Lekker Architects, the resort was reimagined and reopened in 2020 adding private pools to both the One-Bedroom Water Villas and COMO Water Villas. In addition a new airy Pilates studio was added, a two-floor gym and yoga centre, and the interior of every villa was redesigned.

If you are truly looking for a get-away-from-it-all luxury escape, this is one Maldives resort location that should be high on your travel wish list.
