Here’s the Tiny Health Habits that Help When Life Gets Hectic

Some weeks just have a nasty little attitude from the start, which, sure, sounds a bit silly to say, but it’s like you know for a fact that it’s not going to get better, it’s either going to get worse, or best case scenario, just stay as bad as it already is. But it doesn’t matter because it’s still a rude awakening, though, here you are just trying to stay on top of your health (hopefully that’s the case), and it’s just one thing after the other. As you slept past your alarm, everything instantly feels behind; the kitchen isn’t clean, the week is already rougher than usual, meals need sorting, things need picking up (but you’re lacking the energy here).

And well, it just seems like this week will barely be managed. Water gets forgotten because of your schedule, and lunch gets pushed back (or not even eaten at all). Oh, and don’t forget about sleep here, because sleep gets treated like it’s optional. The whole thing becomes coffee, rushing, and hoping for the best. But sure, sometimes, it just feels a little heavier some weeks, sometimes, it’s a whole month.

So then there’s just that domino effect of low energy, bad moods, thinner patience, you get the point. But during these times, though, you still need to focus on yourself and your health (even when it seems downright impossible). So, here are some tiny habits you should consider.

Make the Helpful Stuff Stupidly Easy to Reach

Well, you should have it on hand already, ideally preparing for advanced situations when you need that “pick me up.”But anyway, a lot of good habits fail for a very boring reason: they’re too inconvenient once the week gets busy. That’s it. People love acting like they need more discipline, when half the time they just need the useful stuff to be where their actual life is happening.

If the water bottle’s upstairs, the tea’s hidden behind six other things, the tissues have disappeared, and the little bits that make the day easier are nowhere obvious, then of course they’re not getting used. So, hopefully you already see the problem, which, yes, you could easily change. That’s why it helps to keep the basics close to hand instead of tucked away; well, in general, you just always need to have the basics in stock (again, it should always be).

So, for everyone it’s going to be different, but it helps during those off days (including when you’re just sicks), would be to have some cans of soup on hand (or in the freezer if you prefer homemade, a bottle of propolis and manuka honey spray for the throat (especially when it’s irritating you), lip balm, plenty of tea bags, lozenges, and some pain killers too. It probably doesn’t hurt to have a heating pad or one of those hot water bottles, either for aches and pains. While yes, this is so simple, most people very rarely prepare for this in advance.

Build in Tiny Little Resets

But what exactly is a tiny reset, though? Well, it’s best to just start off by saying that this is one of those things people skip because it sounds too small to be important, and then they spend the whole day feeling fried. Again, this is just tiny habits, so a tiny reset needs to go into this as well. But a tiny reset in the middle of a hectic day can do far more than people expect, mostly because it stops the day from just bulldozing straight through without a break.

Basically, it can be as simple as just sitting there drinking a cup of tea, sitting there in silence for ten minutes without touching your phone (or looking at a scene). It’s standing next to a window for five minutes to get some sun; basically, it’s a tiny pause. It’s nice to have this mentality rather than physically speaking, especially if the week has been hectic or just downright stressful in general.

Stop Making Food and Water into a Whole Production

And this was already brought up, but the problem a lot of people have is pushing it off when things go south, when you have a hectic week, be it busy with work and errands, or just feeling sick, your routine is out of whack, or whatever else, the problem is that the basics, food and water tend to get pushed off. As breakfast turns into grabbing whatever’s nearest, usually, lunch happens at a bizarre hour or gets replaced with caffeine and misplaced confidence. Water gets ignored until there’s a headache involved; chances are, you’re guilty of it. Just about everyone is guilty of this.

Just have a bottle of water in reach, some people swear by a Staley Cup because the water is constantly cold, prepare food in advance, some people just have food on hand for bad times like this (be it granola bars or frozen food they can nuke in the microwave). Ideally, these should be healthy, of course, or else this isn’t really a tiny health habit.

Make the Evening Pull Its Weight

A bad evening has a way of making the next day feel horrible before it’s even started. People get to the end of a hectic day completely spent, then nothing gets reset, nothing gets prepared, bedtime drifts later than it should, and the morning starts off in a bad mood because the evening gave it nothing to work with.

That pattern can keep going all week if nobody interrupts it. You get the point, most people deal with this. A bad evening turns the next day into a bad mood, hence why you should never go to bed in a bad mood. So, what will actually make you stay in a good mood when it’s time to go to bed? That’s really going to be up to you to decide; no real advice can be given there, honestly. For some people, it’s not touching their phone or hearing the news; it can be taking a shower, but this is something that’s more of a personal preference.
