If you’re on the road around Queensland right now, you’re probably going to be driving through the Gold Coast pretty soon.
And when you get there, you’re going to want to stop off and explore – it’s one of the best waterfront cities in the entirety of Australia! Plenty of sand and sunny conditions, as well as picturesque ocean views and plenty of in-land canal ways that you can traipse down.
But it’s best to try and get into Gold Coast as early as you can, to make sure you find a parking spot, a good beach spot, and have time to book yourself in for both a visit to Dreamworld and a hands-on surfing lesson.
And seeing as you’ll be in town at such an early time of the day, we also recommend stopping for a nice cup of coffee and something to eat too!
As such, we’ve put together a list of the 5 best coffee spots across the Gold Coast. If you want to grab a good cup of morning coffee that’ll set you up for the rest of the day, make sure you stop off at any of the bars and cafes we’ve listed down below.

Harley & Hudson Coffee Bar – Best for getting a view of the sunrise
Opening times: 6am to 2pm on weekdays/6am to 4.45pm on weekends
Harley & Hudson Coffee bar is the best place to grab a coffee when you’re in town early enough to watch the sun come up. The bar overlooks the Broadwater, so you’ll get a perfect view of the morning sunrise as it hits the water and spreads inland.
Really, it’s one of the best views to be awake for, and more than makes up for the all-night drive you had to do!
They also serve premium Campos Coffee, which is a real nationwide favourite, and guarantees you’re going a good blend and roast on the cuppa you’re served.
In terms of food options, there’s plenty of breakfast and brunch plates on the menu, including savoury sandwiches and sweet pastries.
It’s also not difficult to find a place to park, as there’s plenty of easy access parking right outside the shop. And it happens to be kid and dog friendly, so it’s easy to bring the whole family down for a drink and snack!
Bam Bam Bakehouse – Best for those who love a pastry with their drink
Opening times: 6am to 2.30pm every day (except Christmas)
The wonderful Bam Bam Bakehouse is our second pick! They have a plentiful range of from a traditional cuppa to iced coffees of all kinds. The best thing about the shop is their range of amazing pastries that are cooked fresh every day. You can also pre order these when you’re on the way – although you’ll have to give them 24 hours notice!
And on top of all that, they have an extremely attentive staff on the shop floor. No matter where you’re sitting, you really won’t be waiting for long for someone to take your order.
Commune Cafe – Best for late morning pick-me-ups
Opening times: 6am to 3pm every day
Our number 3 pick for the best morning coffee places on the Gold Coast, Commune Cafe is a lovely little spot in Burleigh. The coffee they serve comes freshly roasted each and every time, and there are plenty of espresso options for anyone who needs a bit of a wake up after a long morning!
The coffee house itself is super cosy too, with plenty of outdoor seating that keeps you undercover from the approaching midday sun. Commune Cafe also offers both breakfast and lunch options, although the kids menu is only available upon request.

Paradox Coffee Roasters Cafe – Best for unique coffee flavours
Opening times: 5.30am to 2.30pm every day (except holidays)
A very unique coffee shop that serves up a unique coffee experience, Paradox Coffee Roasters Cafe is our 4th pick here.
The team behind the cafe are committed to providing a unique and flavourful blend of coffee, with a comfortable cafe setting to help you stop and slow down.
They also happen to both source and roast the coffee beans themselves, and regularly create limited edition coffee roasts that you can only try if you happen to be in town! That’s pretty great for the tourist scene!
They’re pretty family-friendly too, as kids can get crayons and colouring pages to keep them busy.
Stairwell Coffee – Best for urban explorers who love tucked away spots
Opening times: 6am to 9pm on Fridays/6am to 4pm other weekdays/6am to 2pm on weekends
Finally, Stairwell Coffee takes 5th place. And they can be a bit hard to find, as the shop itself is located under the stairs in The Centre Arcade on Surfers Paradise Blvd! But if you like finding the unique shops in the cute books, this is the coffee bar for you!
They stock every kind of hot and iced coffee you might want, from lattes to macchiatos, as well as a range of ‘jaffles’ to eat. And if you’re still on the road, it’s easy to order ahead; you just need to give them a call.
