5 Of The Most Iconic Pink Dresses On Film

Iconic film dresses stick in our memory forever (who could forget seeing Keira Knightley in that green dress in Atonement). Here are our five favourite pink dresses from movie history, trust us it was tough to choose!

1. Pretty in Pink

Who can forget working class Andie’s (Molly Ringwald) remade polka dot pink prom dress when her and Blane finally get together at prom in the Brat Pack classic Pretty in Pink. Watch the scene here. Special bonus? The film’s soundtrack is one of the most iconic 80s film soundtracks in history.

2. Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Audrey Hepburn in 1961 movie Breakfast at Tiffanys is one of the most classic fashion films of all time, and while her black Givenchy number is often lauded as one of the most iconic film moments in history, the entire film is full of memorable fashion moments.

Her pink cocktail dress, also designed by Givenchy (as were all of Audrey’s outfits in the film), is a standout moment not only for the hot pink silk embellished with fan appliques and rhinestones but also for the spectacularly glamourous meltdown Holly has while wearing it (look out for the cat!).

3. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes/20th Century Fox

In one of the most iconic music number scenes in film history, Marilyn Monroe’s Lorelei Lee dons the famous strapless pink dress to perform Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Designed by Willam Travilla, the actress shimmied her way through the scene with a massive bow and glittering diamonds.

4. Legally Blonde

Let’s face it pink is pretty much the colour of heroine Elle Woods in this modern day classic. From her pink bunny costume to her ninetie’s style camis and fluffy pink coat, Elle defines the colour pink. For us though, it is the on-campus print halter dress that she wears that is a true standout- as relevant today as it was in 2001. What? Like, it’s hard?

5. Dirty Dancing

Dirty Dancing/Vestron Pictures

When Baby Houseman hit the stage to dance with Johnny (Patrick Swayze) in her pale pink ballet inspired number it spawned millions of people across the globe trying to recreate the famous ‘lift’ move. But it was Baby’s (Jennifer Grey) dress that did it for us. The backless pale pink dress was the perfect mix of flirty, sexy and sweet.
