How to Use Vitamin C Serum

With so many serum options on the skincare market it can be overwhelming choosing what to use. Vitamin C helps to brighten dark spots, protects against UV damage and acts as an antioxidant, making it a perfect addition to any skincare regime.

There are a few do’s and don’ts to using Vitamin C in your skincare routine to make sure you get the best possible benefits from this wonder vitamin. Read our tips below.

DO use a Vitamic C serum in the morning

Vitamin C protects the skin from environmental aggressors as you go about your day so using it in the morning is the most optimal time.

DO layer under a sunscreen

Vitamin C and SPF will work together to protect the skin against UV damage. Always layer your serum first followed by your sunscreen.

DON’T mix Vitamin C and Retinol (Vitamin A)

These two skin powerhouses will cancel each other out if they are used together. Use your Vitamin C serum in the morning and your retinol products at night.

DO keep your C serum in a dark, cool place

This will ensure that you serum won’t oxidise as Vitamin C is sensitive to light and air.

ALWAYS check the % of active product

If you have sensitive or dry skin aim for about 5% of active ingredient in your C serum, oilier skins can use a higher concentration of Vitamin C.
