Where To Visit Pick Your Own Peony Farms In Australia

Find out where to visit pick your own peony farms in Australia this peony season.

Peony season is almost back in Australia, and it is one of our favourite times of the year! These fleeting blooms don’t last long and are restricted to cold climate parts of the country so you really need to head south to see them growing and to experience a pick-your-own farm.

Luckily, with borders reopening that is now possible, and this year you can enjoy farm gate experiences and have the chance to pick some of these precious blooms.

1. Romswood Peony Farm, Macedon Ranges – Victoria

Romswood is a beautiful family run peony farm located in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges just under one hour from Melbourne. The farm is located in the picturesque Kerrie Valley and the gardens at the farm are established and a lovely spot to spend a few hours.

This year the season starts on 13 November. The current advertised pick-your-own days are between 13 – 27 November. The cost is $50 for entry, $20 to visit with no stems and children under 18 are free.

If you are in the region of the Macedon Ranges you can also get lucky and see farms selling blooms on the side of the road, often for $7-10 a bunch.

*ele Secret spots!* Try the corner of Romsey Road and the unassuming Mumfords Road in Hesket from early to mid November for bunches of blooms being sold on the side of the road for $7 – $10. The florist in Woodend will also have locally grown blooms at the same time of the year.

A regular on our ele calendar is the pretty Spring Hill Peony Farm located in the small hamlet of Spring Hill close to Trentham and Daylesford. This farm serves food and drinks and is a great spot to picnic and enjoy the beautiful surrounds.

Keep an eye on Spring Hill’s Instagram page here for all of the details. Bookings open on November 13 and the cost is $55 for entry and 15 peony stems.

3. Red Hill Peony Estate, Mornington Peninsula – Victoria

Heading in the opposite direction, the Red Hill Peony Estate is located on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. The Estate has been owned by the same family for seven generations, and has a long history of growing vegetables and produce on the lush land.

This year the Farm Gate Peak Bloom Days will be during November and the Farm gate will open on October 27 when the coral peonies start to flower. While there is no pick-your-own option, visitors will be able to purchase cut flowers, potted peonies and tree peonies. Private tours are also available.

4. Gateforth Farm Peonies, Black River – Tasmania

Gateforth Farm in cold climate Tasmania is the perfect peony growing region. There are six acres of peonies that you can meander through and on the ‘Peonies in the Paddock’ day on November 20 you can buy flowers and plants and enjoy some great local Tasmanian produce and music.
