When it comes to selling your home, there are lots of things you can do to make it more appealing when it comes to open day. Some opt for stylish upgrades months in advance so that they can bump up the asking price, but that simply isn’t an option for many people. So, what can you do when you don’t have an unlimited budget but still want to make a great first impression to potential buyers? You may still have to put some sort of cash injection into it, but let’s take a look at some budget friendly ways to make your home look incredible in time for your open house.

Deep clean

There will always be some form of dirt or grime that you’ve accidentally missed – even in the homes of the cleanest people! This is where you’ll need to get a little bit more “Mrs Hinch”. You’ll need to dig out your rubber gloves and really go for it when it comes to cleaning your home. Don’t forget about the unseen places like underneath your taps and in between appliances you wouldn’t usually move for cleaning.

If you don’t have the time (or energy), then you should look into some deep cleaning services near you. They’ll be able to come in and refresh your home so it’s like new. You can either leave them a list of jobs to do or ask them to provide the service they normally would – either way, a clean and fresh home is going to make a world of difference to potential buyers.

Give potential buyers a blank canvas

While everyone should absolutely express themselves when it comes to the decor in their home, not everyone has the same taste in decor. So, while you might love the brightly painted walls and the floral wallpaper, some viewers may not. And, they may struggle to see themselves living in your property if the decor is too busy.

Take a neutral colour like beige or white and give them a blank canvas to work from. If you don’t have the time, consider getting some painters in to quickly refresh your walls and allow potential buyers to see all of the amazing things they could do with your space. It might seem drastic, but it could be the difference between your property selling or sitting on the market for months on end.

Make sure you’re making the right first impression

Finally, no matter what they say, first impressions really do matter. That’s why it’s important to take a look at your home with a fresh perspective to see what things could be improved to make a great first impression. This might involve repainting the exterior of your home or replacing your front door.
Or, you might benefit from spending some time neatening up your front lawn by trimming the length, pulling any dead weeds and raking up any dead leaves. It might not seem like much, but when you give off the impression that you’ve loved and cared for your home, it will rub off on potential buyers.
