Exploring Melbourne’s many laneways is one of our favourite pastimes. These often nondescript laneways reveal restaurants, bars, cafes and shops like hidden secrets. If you aren’t a Melbourne local it can be hard to know where to start and what to look for. Down one of these typical laneways is the fabulous Bowery to Williamsburg. This NYC style deli serves up some impressive bagels, schmalz chicken, reuben sandwiches, mac’n’cheese, key lime pie, root beer and many other American classics. There is a relaxed, cool vibe inside with a large communal table and outside bright umbrella covered tables overlook the cobblestones of Oliver Lane. This is one of ELE’s favourite hangouts and you can usually find us here on a Friday morning, peanut butter hot chocolate in one hand and lox bagel in the other!
