Crystal clear turquoise water, white sandy beaches and a laid back vibe that is sure to relax you as soon as you arrive, Formentera in the Balearic Islands is the perfect escape for those looking for a chilled out, barefoot-style escape.
The smallest of the islands in the Balearics at only 22km long, Formentera is situated in the Mediterranean Sea, a 30 minute ferry ride away from world famous Ibiza. The island is ideal for a day trip escape from the party island or perfect as a destination in itself.

There aren’t a lot of sights to see on the island and the night life is quiet which really is the beauty of it, it is all about slowing down and enjoying long, lazy days relaxing by the sea.
During the summer months the horizon is dotted with yachts as the rich, the famous, billionaires, millionaires and everyone in-between come out in force, pulling mega-yachts and sailing boats up to the island to enjoy wine-fuelled lunches and wonderful squid ink paella.
Formentera’s Best Beaches
Illetes, Llevant and Migjorn are three of the best beaches on the island with clear turquoise waters and long stretches of soft white sand. Be aware that nude sunbaking is common on most beaches so if you are feeling a little more conservative it may not be the island for you!
Formentera isn’t cheap, with most items being shipped in so food and drink tend to be on the pricier side. There are a range of accommodation options to suit all budgets, one of our favourites is Gecko Hotel and Beach Club – a great option for those looking for a laid-back glamorous escape with sea views and a lovely pool.

If you are seeking a beachside escape with little more to do than eat, drink, sunbake and chill out then Formentera is for you. For more information click here.
