5 Of The Best Hair Oils For Every Hair Type

Hair oils are a great addition to any hair care regime, and the days of oil making hair too ‘heavy’ are gone. The new crop of hair oils are designed to make hair beautifully shiny and manageable by nourishing deeply with essential vitamins, providing protection from styling and adding gorgeous shine without weighing hair down.

Here are five of our current favourites, suitable for every hair type and budget.

1. Kerastase Elixir Ultime Beautifying Oil

Fast tracking its way to the top of our list is Kerastase Elixir Ultime Beautifying Oil, certainly not the cheapest in the list but worth every single penny. This is our favourite for post-washing/pre-styling. It nourishes dry ends beautifully, doesn’t leave hair oily and a little (1-2 pumps on longer hair) goes a long way. Post-wash add a little to the ends of your hair and style, your hair will feel smoother, less damaged and more shiny.

It has quite a strong smell that we love, however if you are looking for an oil that isn’t so highly scented you may want to try one of the other products. Fine-haired babes can also enjoy this oil – it won’t weigh hair down making it perfect for finer locks.

2. Schwarzkopf Extra Care 6 Miracles Oil Essence

This is our current supermarket/drugstore budget pick, it provides excellent results for a fraction of the cost of higher-end brands and delivers smoother, shinier and more manageable hair, perfect for those who wash and style their hair every day.

3. Wella Luxe SP Reconstructive Elixir

Our top hair oil for using in between washes and on dry hair, it deeply moisturisers and keeps hair under control. We love it as an overnight treatment, simply apply a few pumps to the ends of your hair, brush through and plait your hair or put in to a loose bun – in the morning your hair will be deliciously smooth and nourished and will smell amazing.

4. Moroccanoil Original Oil Treatment

One of the originals and a great everyday option, it is a classic staple that we keep coming back too – it’s reliable, effective and does exactly what it says on the bottle.

For us it’s a little heavier on finer hair than the Kerastase or Wella so maybe a better option for hair that is thicker/curly. There is a lighter version that is more suitable for fine hair but for the price we would go for the Kerastase instead.

5. Olaplex No 7 Bonding Oil

New kid on the block this oil packs a powerful punch, it’s everything you would expect from Olaplex, a highly targeted formula designed to whip your hair in shape and great as a pre-styling oil as it protects hair from temps up to 230 celcius. A highly effective oil that is great for damaged hair and works beautifully with the rest of the Olaplex range.

Note while the price seems reasonable the bottle is small (30ml), compared to the 75ml-100ml standard of the other oils we have reviewed. You only need a few drops so a little does go a long way however you will go through this product faster than the others, we use it once a week for a pre-blow dry treatment.
