Plan Your Route
When running alone, before heading off for your evening run, map out the route you plan on running and try sticking to running paths and familiar areas. When running alone, it’s always best to avoid running in isolated areas, particularly in the dark. Ensuring you are taking well-lit streets that are familiar to you, can make it that much easier.
Clothing
If you choose to run at night, it is important to dress accordingly, making sure you remain visible to drivers and other pedestrians. Wearing bright, or reflective gear can help ensure that you are easily spotted in the dark, thus being visible to oncoming traffic or pedestrians in your path.

Alertness
Being aware of your surroundings is important at any time of the day, however, it is important to remain extra vigilant into the evening. As you head off for your run, try and remain alert of your environment, including traffic flow, bike riders, pedestrians and any suspicious behavior that you should remain away from.
Avoid Music
Whilst some people find music to be motivating, when running alone at night, it is best to remain aware. Therefore I would recommend that you don’t run with headphones and instead may attention to your surroundings.
Use Technology
Making the most of smartphones and devices are a great way to make you feel safer taking an evening run. Sharing your location via your smartphone of your running route with a partner, house mate or friend is another great way to know that someone can locate you if need be.
