How to Revitalise Your Kitchen With a New Colour Palette

As we head into a new year, now is the perfect time to reimagine the home. If you’re thinking about updating your kitchen, there are some top colour trends that you might want to try. Here’s an overview of how to breathe new life into the space and the looks that could be perfect.

Assess your kitchen’s current style

Begin by evaluating your kitchen’s existing design elements. When did you last make changes to this part of your home? Is it looking particularly dated or will minor changes be needed? By asking these questions before you dive in, you can establish just how big this project will be and steer you towards investing in larger-scale tasks like tiling or smaller details like accessories.

Remember to consider your lighting too. Understanding how natural and artificial light interact with your space will guide you in selecting colours that enhance the room’s ambiance. To do this, think about where the kitchen is located in the house. If it gets a lot of natural light, you can play around with darker colours. If you rely on lighting to brighten the space, you may need to stick to lighter tones on the walls.

Explore trending colour schemes

Opting for trending colours is a great way to bring your kitchen right up to date. We’ve seen a move towards warm, cosy neutrals in 2024 and Pantone has embraced this by making Mocha Mousse its Colour of the Year for 2025. This rich, indulgent coffee tone could be the perfect colour for your kitchen.

Green is also set to continue to be a chic colour. A sage green kitchen can introduce a beautiful country house aesthetic, adding an elegant touch, while darker greens tap into the trend for earthy tones that are set to dominate home décor into next year.

Incorporate colour through accents

Where you introduce your chosen colour palette can be key in helping you to elevate the space. You may want to focus on bringing in a new colour through cabinetry or by tiling the walls in the new shade.

Painting cabinets in a bold hue or adding colourful backsplashes can make a significant impact. Or you might want to nod to a new colour with a few accessories.

Balance aesthetics with practicality

Ensure that your selected colours are both visually appealing and suitable for kitchen use. For instance, red will still be everywhere in 2025, a year on from the popularity of the Unexpected Red Theory, but you might want to add a pop here and there in your kitchen in order to not overwhelm the space.

Also, opt for durable, easy-to-clean paints and finishes that withstand daily wear and tear. This is a room that requires a balance between pretty and practical. By thoughtfully selecting and applying a new colour palette, you can rejuvenate your kitchen into a vibrant and functional space that suits your lifestyle.
