Keeping the Dangers of a Home Pool at Bay: Three Sure-Fire Methods

Having a pool in the backyard is something most of us have envisaged when we conjure up an idea of our dream home. There’s nothing better than taking a plunge into cool, crisp water after a hard day, and to have that experience in the privacy of your own house is fantastic.

That said, water is inherently dangerous, and unlike at the beach or your local public pool, there won’t be lifeguards there keeping a look out for risk. Ultimately, you have to take danger mitigation into your own hands, and so here are three great methods for doing just that!

Establishing the Basics

First and foremost, one of the most important elements of pool safety isn’t any sort of tool or physical measure – it’s some basic rules. Those most at risk are children and pets, so it’s key to explain to your kids some basic safety measures, such as making sure they don’t run near the pool, never using it unsupervised, and being wary of letting the dog out.

These sorts of rules should be written down or printed out and affixed near the pool as a constant reminder. You should also have a strong pool cover installed if you don’t have a fence yet, and if you can, some non-stick decking or paving around the perimeter and general area.

Installing Glass Pool Fencing

Glass pool fencing is one of the best ways to protect your loved ones and pets from the dangers associated with a pool.

These types of fences are designed with strong, durable glass that extends high and with bespoke dimensions to perfectly fit your specific pool design. They can withstand plenty of bangs and all weather conditions, and unlike other safety precautions like pool covers, the aesthetics of your pool are maintained perfectly (the glass fencing can also extend to encompass the entire pool area including seating areas if you wish).

With the fencing being transparent, it also allows parents to supervise their children from inside or from other areas of the garden.

The Benefits of a Pool Alarm System

A pool alarm system can be an invaluable tool when it comes to pool safety. Usually installed around the perimeter of the pool, these alarms are highly sensitive to movement in the water, meaning that if anyone is in the pool that shouldn’t be or if someone falls in, all in the house will know about it.

These devices offer peace of mind for parents who are concerned their children might neglect the basic ground rules laid out, or for those worried a pet might temporarily escape somehow and end up in the water. There are various different types of pool alarms to fit a wide variety of pool designs, so do some research to discover which one may be best for you.

Setting the right safety boundaries is a big part of enjoying your pool, and it doesn’t have to be complicated. Hopefully, you now have a good idea of how to keep the danger at bay so you can embrace all your pool has to offer.
