From humble beginnings growing up in a small rural village in Poland, to founding and leading a multi-million dollar construction company, Charlie Puchala is testament to the fact that discipline, determination and focus can yield incredible results. A successful entrepreneur, businesswoman and author based in Sydney, NSW, Charlie is the co-founder and director of commercial construction company, Puch Constructions PTY LTD, founder and director of residential construction company Charlies Interiors and fashion label Za Collective as well as an up and-coming author, with her debut book out soon.
She attributes her success to the resilience she built during her unusual childhood and the conscious decision she made as a young woman to shift her mindset after years of ‘fumbling around in business’. We catch up with Charlie and find out how she spends her weekends.
Friday PM
After a busy week, I love to go for a 10km run on a Friday evening. When I arrive back home I head straight to the kitchen where I prepare dinner and enjoy some quality time with my teenage daughter and her lovely group of friends. The kitchen quickly becomes a hub of conversation and laughter as they fill me in on their latest school adventures, social dramas, and the ever-changing world of teenage trends.
Saturday AM
Saturday mornings start with a cardio session in my gym at home, followed by a swim in the pool. Then, I jump in the car and drive to my flying lesson. It’s one of my favourite times of the week. I really look forward to jumping in the plane and hitting the great big blue open skies. I love the adrenaline hit it gives me. I’m going for my helicopter license soon, which I’m very excited for.
Saturday PM
Saturday evenings are all about seeing my friends, and it’s something I truly look forward to every week. No matter how hectic life gets, I always make the effort to reconnect with my closest girlfriends – the same incredible group I’ve been lucky enough to call friends for the past 12 years.
We usually meet up at Mimi’s in Coogee or the Coogee Pavilion Rooftop—our go-to spots for good food, great cocktails, and a relaxed atmosphere with stunning ocean views. There’s something so special about sitting together, sharing stories, and laughing over the highs and lows of our week.
Sunday AM
Sunday mornings I’ll drive up to my property in Kangaroo Valley. I’m currently rebuilding the main homestead after it burnt down at the end of last year. I then love to sit down with a cup of coffee and spend some quiet time writing. There’s an unmatched sense of peace there, a quiet that allows my thoughts to flow freely. It’s in these moments that I find clarity and inspiration, making it the perfect place to write my upcoming book.
Sunday PM
I’ll then pack up the car and head back home, taking a moment to reflect on the weekend before shifting my focus to the week ahead.
Before I completely wind down for the night, I’ll squeeze in another workout – whether it’s a quick jog, a yoga session, or some strength training – to clear my mind and re-energise. After that, I’ll spend some quality time with my family, catching up on the day’s events or simply unwinding together. Finally, it’s time to switch off, relax, and get a good night’s sleep before the new week begins.
