Obtain State and Local Licensees

Proper licensing and training, as required by the local ordinances and state statutes or laws, are necessary hoops to jump through every time. Not only are they essential certifications, such as RBS certification, that your restaurant needs to start and stay in business, but they are also vital pieces of information and guidance that will help you and your staff understand their respective service roles and operate in their jobs to the best of their abilities.

Prioritize Customer Service

Customer service is the cornerstone of any business, especially the service industry, including restaurants. While the old mantra that states, “The customer is always right” does not always ring true today, the customer must be attended to. That begins with paying attention to the people who frequent your restaurant. Acknowledge their arrival and attentively cater to their needs to show them and the rest of your customers that they matter.

Watch this in-depth video on a variety of customer service tactics and practices you can implement in your restaurant.

Create an Online Presence and Engage on Social Media

Creating a functional website should be the first step in putting your restaurant online. So often, a restaurant does not have a website. Perhaps they have a FaceBook page, but it is not comprehensive and is limited in available information or has outdated comments. This shows new customers that no one is commenting on your restaurant right now, which may lead them to think your restaurant is closed, irrelevant, or just plain bad.

Spend time and invest in the creation of a website. Either outsource this task or hire someone in-house if you have a larger business model. Whatever you choose to do, ensure the website is aesthetically clean and visually pleasing, user-friendly, and easy to update if you decide to manage it on your own in the future.

Next, create a variety of social media accounts on various platforms. Put out content on these sites to excite customers and get them interested in your establishment and food. Add user-friendly menus, hours of operation, and seasonal menu selections. Include drink options, highlight non-alcoholic beverages, and prominently mention the restaurant’s ability to cater to dietary restriction requirements. And remember to respond to everything online. Every comment, whether it is positive or negative, deserves a response.
