Looking for a new brunch spot in Melbourne? The team behind Daly St Coffee Roasters has opened a new cafe in the former 1950s Glen Huntly post office, Major Mitchell.
Pretty in pink, guests at the cafe can taste different coffee blends and enjoy Chandon champagne and signature cocktails while enjoying the delicious and playful food on offer.
Sister act Katie Devic and Melissa Glentis are the brains behind Major Mitchell, between them they have more than 20 years of both international and local experience in cafes and coffee roasting.
The sisters wanted to create a welcoming space that both adults and families can enjoy. The space is playful and fun, with pretty pink accents that brighten up even the greyist of Melbourne days.
Signature cocktails like then Watermelon Long Island cocktail and Chandon’s Orange Garden Spritz can be enjoyed, with the team planning a series of ‘Summer Spritz Sunday’ events in the gorgeous garden area.
Major Mitchell isn’t just a day time option, with Paella night and an Argentinian BBQ nights planned.
Daniel Ricardo Reyes Diaz, Head Chef at the cafe draws inspiration from Middle Eastern, Asian and European cuisines, combining ingredients, colour and techniques from each continent to create beautifully plated creations which hero local, seasonal ingredients.
Diaz explains the menu is “not only a combination of ingredients, but it is also a combination of techniques and knowledge – every single team member in our kitchen has added to the development of recipes on the menu.”
Some of delicious dishes on offer include Pina Colada Panna Cotta Ice Cream on Waffles, Mushroom Polenta and Smoked Lamb Shoulder with Celeriac Skordalia, inspired by the sisters’ Greek heritage. Fresh pastries from Penny For Pound and pink cakes from Clementine Lane, are also on the menu.
Major Mitchell is a great addition to Melbourne’s food scene and we predict that the combination of a welcoming space, instagrammable setting, great cocktails and food will make this a sought-after brunch spot in Melbourne’s south-east.
