The Best Trans-Seasonal Clothing That Can Be Worn From Day to Night

By Sophie Doyle, the founder of The Fable

With the cost of living getting more expensive, more of us are keen to get more bang for our buck when it comes to shopping. Purchasing a one-use outfit doesn’t make sense for the majority of us anymore, and therefore creating a capsule wardrobe with trans-seasonal pieces may be key.

Trans-seasonal pieces are those that can be worn in more than one season. So think light long-sleeve tops, t-shirts, jeans, trousers, and a pencil skirt. While this may sound like “the basics” of any wardrobe, there are a few key things that can make an item trans-seasonal.

Quality

The first thing is quality because if your item of clothing is going to fall apart after two washes, it isn’t really going to live up to the task of being wearable across seasons. Buying items that have a high quality fabric is key. For example, my label, The Fable is known for its silk de chine silk shirts. I created the range to solve the problem of most silk shirts being flimsy and needing to be dry cleaned, which gets expensive. The Fable shirts can be machine-washed and are made to last. The same should go for any other item you choose, although suiting may be the one thing that I can justify dry cleaning.

Buttons

Having a button-up shirt is another good way to keep your look fresh. Buttons can allow you to have a high cut or low cut look around the bust. You can also keep the bottom part of your shirt unbuttoned and tie it to create a casual look, you can tuck it in to be more formal, and fold the sleeves up or down. A button-up shirt is the ultimate chameleon when it comes to creating different looks across the seasons.

The Colours

To be truly trans-seasonal, it pays to look for colours that won’t go out of fashion. Think Navy, Grey, Black, White, Cream, blush pink, pale blue. Choosing colours in this range, even if they have a spin on them is the best way to make the item transcend the seasons.

Prints

Stick to prints that don’t date, such as stripes or dots. If you go with a unique print that will only be around for one season, try not to break the bank with it.

Dressing from day to night

So now that we have our staples sorted, how do we change our look from day to night? Well, that comes down to accessories. For example, a daytime look may be wearing a silk shirt that is tied at the waist with jeans, stud earrings, flat shoes and a denim jacket. In the evening, you may change into heels, with hoop earrings, a fun handbag, tuck your shirt in and a leather jacket.

By focusing on investing on your staples, you can change the way an outfit looks pretty easily with accessories, shoes and outerwear. Shop The Fable here.
