Dealing With Customer Complaints

More often than not, as the manager you are the one who will need to deal with the customer complaints that come in. Usually you will generally have much less interaction with customers, but the interactions you do have often is when there is a problem that needs to be fixed. it’s important that you have and develop a decent approach towards dealing with these often fraught situations.

How best to do it? Well, it’s always important to remain calm and collected, and to do all you can to keep your customer happy. That means apologizing, providing a solution, and then seeking to resolve things calmly and quickly. This is the best approach, though it’s not always as straightforward as this. Nonetheless, it’s something you will soon get used to if you are a manager for a long time.

Scheduling Staff

Because you are in charge of your people and your team, you are the one who needs to schedule them – when they are going to work and for how long. Working this stuff out can often be more complex than you might think, and it’s something that you are going to need to make sure you are aware of if you want to try and ensure you are getting the most out of your employees.

It can help if you have the right tools in place, which might be a simple piece of software or even just making use of some staff scheduling templates online. However you do it, you’ll soon find that you work out your own best approach towards scheduling your staff, balancing the needs of individual members of staff with the needs of the team and the goals of the business as a whole. It’s a delicate balancing act, but it’s perfectly possible to get it right.

Disciplinary Matters

From time to time, you may need to deal with a member of staff who has transgressed in some way or another. When this situation arises, it’s important that you know how to deal with it. Again, this can take some patience and some practice, but it’s worth it for the results it can bring. Generally you are going to want to think about what you can do to let them know that they have done wrong in a respectful and measured way, and work together on a plan to rectify the situation ongoing. Finding that balance is the main challenge here, but again with time you can figure this stuff out.

Hopefully you won’t need to do this too often. But you do need to demonstrate that the rules are there for a reason and that you are doing all you can to ensure they are implemented – this is a major part of your job as the manager of a team of people.

Responsibility

Of course, a manager always has a great deal of responsibility, and this is something that you need to make sure you are aware of and handle as well as you can. There is no doubt that it can sometimes be hard to do this effectively, but as long as you are doing your best going to find that you are much more likely to be the kind of manager that gets things done. This is obviously what really matters here, so it’s something you are going to want to think about.

Those are just some of the main challenges of being a manager that you may want to be aware of.
