You’ve Decided to Work for Yourself, How Can You Avoid the Pressure?

There are so many of us that are deciding whether we should take a leap to work for ourselves because of unviable jobs or because we need to regain more control over our lives. But when it comes to working for ourselves, whether we are starting our own business or just attempting to freelance, there is a lot of pressures we may not think about at the beginning because we are so hypnotized by the range of benefits working for ourselves can bring. If you’ve decided to work for yourself, how can you truly avoid this sense of pressure?

Set Realistic Expectations

It can be overly tempting to hit the ground running. Nobody is perfect and that’s okay, because if you put excessive pressure on yourself to think that you need to earn a certain amount in the first year, there are things beyond your control that will get the better of you, and this results in a negative spiral of emotions. Instead, think about what you can do to ensure you’re giving your professional reputation or your business reputation the very best foundations.

There can be a number of simple things that we put in play here. A great website or working with the right type of content creator, but there are also a lot of things that can give your business a greater sense of credibility. For example, there is a company called ABN Assist that can help with getting an Australian Business Number (ABN), which can make life a lot easier for you, for example, by claiming tax deductions for business-related expenses and avoiding pay-as-you-go tax on payments you receive.

This means you can focus more on the act of running a business rather than worrying about the little financial things. What’s more, an ABN could mean you are eligible for various business incentives and grants, and this could also make running the business at the outset far easier. When you are dealing with other businesses, professional credibility is critical, and therefore an ABN can help with this as well. Ultimately, being realistic and focusing on the things you can control is not just great for the beginning of your business life, but in the long run as well.

Create a Proper System

Rather than just doing the work yourself, focus a bit more on creating a good system at the very beginning and building a business model that’s sustainable. There are loads of things that we can do. For example, we can automate our work when necessary, delegate to freelancers, and just think about how we could change our mindset to manage pressure.

When we change our attitude towards these challenges, it will alleviate some of the pressure that we can put upon ourselves. For example, getting a business advisor is absolutely worth its weight in gold because you will have a far better understanding of how to navigate this new world.

There are so many people out there who love the idea of working for themselves, and that entrepreneurial vigor is something that is certainly catching like a cold these days. But we can’t avoid the fact that there’s so many people who fail at the first hurdle because they’re just not getting in the right mindset. Work hard now at avoiding any sense of pressure and you will reap the benefits.
