Ingredients

  • 1 9-inch pie crust, homemade or store-bought
  • 4 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon (0.6 ml) nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) grated cheese (such as Gruyere or cheddar)
  • Optional: chopped herbs for garnish (such as parsley or chives)

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out the pie crust and place it in a 9-inch (23 cm) pie dish. Trim any excess dough and prick the bottom with a fork.
  3. In a skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove from heat and drain any excess fat.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, whole milk, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg until well combined.
  5. Sprinkle the grated cheese over the bottom of the pie crust, then sprinkle the cooked bacon on top.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the cheese and bacon, making sure to fill the crust evenly.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the quiche is set and the crust is golden brown.
  8. Allow the quiche to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with chopped herbs if desired.
