Everyday Habits that Slow Cellular Aging

Most of us want to live in our best health for as long as possible, to look, feel, and perform at our best. But as the global population ages, maintaining long-term vitality has never been more important. According to the World Health Organization, the number of people aged 60 and older is projected to surge from 1.1 billion in 2023 to 1.4 billion by 2030, and those 80 and above will triple to 426 million by 2050.

These demographic shifts will bring significant economic pressures, with GDP per capita expected to drop 5.7% for every 10% increase in the 60+ population share, alongside rising healthcare and pension costs according to SIEPR.

So how can we take control of our own healthspan, the years we live free from disease and decline? We spoke to Greg Macpherson, futurist, author, biotechnologist, pharmacologist and founder of SRW Laboratories about the everyday habits that help slow cellular aging and support long-term vitality.

1. Move Often, Recover Well

Movement is one of the simplest, and most powerful, ways to support cellular health. Exercise improves circulation, oxygen flow, and mitochondrial efficiency, all of which keep energy systems functioning at their best. But just as important as moving often is allowing the body time to recover and adapt.

Habit tip: Balance your week with a mix of strength, cardio, and mindful recovery. Think of rest as an active part of progress, not a pause from it.

2. Nourish Cells with Whole, Colourful Foods

As our metabolism slows, energy can fluctuate more easily, especially when we rely on convenience foods. Whole, colourful ingredients do the opposite: they fuel vitality from the inside out. Antioxidants found in berries, greens, and healthy fats help neutralise the oxidative stress that contributes to cellular ageing.

Habit tip: Fill your plate with bright, nutrient-rich foods. The more natural colour, the more cellular protection you’re giving your body.

SRW connection: Cel² Nourishment delivers Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) to support NAD⁺ levels, which power energy and cellular renewal. PterostilbeneAstaxanthin, and L-Carnosine act as powerful antioxidants that protect your mitochondria, the “engines” of your cells, from free radical damage.

3. Sleep Like It’s Self-Care

We’ve all felt it, one night of poor sleep and everything feels off. Energy dips, focus fades, and our skin seems duller. That’s because deep sleep is when our body repairs DNA, clears cellular waste, and renews tissues. Missing that nightly recovery window can accelerate both visible and invisible signs of ageing.

Habit tip: Create a sleep ritual that signals your body it’s time to rest – dim lighting, no screens an hour before bed, and a consistent bedtime.

SRW connection: Cel³ Renewal features Apigenin and Fisetin, which help the body clear out older cells and promote renewal. EGCGBerberine, and Ashwagandha further support calm and cellular balance, helping your body recover efficiently while you sleep.

4. Manage Stress and Stay Calm

Between work, family, and daily demands, stress can quietly build up, and your cells feel it before you do. Chronic stress elevates cortisol, which can disrupt sleep, weaken immunity, and accelerate inflammation.

Habit tip: Introduce small moments of calm throughout your day – slow breathing, a morning walk, or even a mindful coffee break can reset your stress response.

SRW connection: Cel³ Renewal’s Ashwagandha helps the body adapt to stress, while Cel¹ Stability combines 2-HOBA (Hobamine™) and Curcumin to neutralise the reactive molecules produced by stress, supporting cellular stability and calm cellular function.

5. Build Your Daily Shield Against Ageing

Our cells are constantly exposed to environmental aggressors, UV rays, pollution, toxins, that can weaken their structure over time. Protecting our inner and outer environment helps maintain both radiance and resilience.

Habit tip: Prioritise sun protection, hydration, and antioxidant-rich foods like citrus, tomatoes, and leafy greens to fortify your natural defences.

SRW connection: Cel¹ Stability features 2-HOBAAstragalusRutinCurcuminZinc, and Selenium – a powerhouse combination that supports DNA integrity, healthy cellular function, and antioxidant defence, acting as a daily shield against environmental ageing.

About The Author

Greg Macpherson is a futurist, author, biotechnologist and pharmacologist who has devoted over a decade to researching ageing at a cellular level. Through his research, Macpherson identified nine hallmarks of ageing across the 12 systems of the body and developed a deep understanding of how these hallmarks can be targeted. This led him to SRW Laboratories, a trailblazing nutraceutical brand founded with one ambitious goal- to close the gap between lifespan and healthspan.
