How To Make More of Your Kitchen Space

The kitchen is the heart of the home for many, which is why it’s important to spend your time and money on it where you can. Whether it’s been due a desperate renovation for a while now or you’re just looking to spruce it up here and there, there are plenty of ways to transform the kitchen space for the better.

Regardless of what you have to work with when it comes to your kitchen, there are plenty of ways in which you can maximize your kitchen’s floor space.

Integrate any appliances

Appliances are something that can take up a lot of room in your kitchen, so it’s important that you’re making use of the space you do have and not restricting it by having heavy and bulky appliances take up the room.

Where you can, it might be worth integrating the appliances and that way, you avoid having them sticking out awkwardly. From your microwave to the fridge and freezer, pretty much all of your appliances can easily be stored away in cupboards and hidden walls. It’s worth getting creative with how you integrate the appliances so that you have very little on show. Replacing your appliances when they start to wear down and require more energy to run is also worth doing.

Take everything you can off the floor

Try to take everything that you can off the floor. This is going to help save a lot of floor space that you might be taking up with unnecessary clutter. It’s always worth taking away the clutter that’s on your floors.  The only things that should be sitting on your floors are the cupboards and drawers that make up the kitchen cabinets.

Be ruthless when it comes to taking everything away, perhaps even considering certain items of furniture that might not necessarily be needed, like worn or clunky breakfast counter stools. Floor space is a luxury that all kitchen spaces require to benefit the flow of traffic in and out of this busy room.

Make it Practical to Use

The more practical your kitchen is to use, the better it’ll be for you. It’ll help make sure you can cook and clean up relatively easily and shouldn’t have anything to worry about. The layout and more than a few other factors can all play a role in this, and they’ll be relatively obvious.

It’s also worth looking into a few non-obvious areas, too. Investing in non-slip coating is a great example of this. While this means spending a little more on your kitchen, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t have a positive impact going forward.

Let in natural light

Natural light is a great way to light up the space and make it feel bigger. Not only that but natural light is a great mood booster and one you’ll love to make use of when it comes to daylight hours – particularly the summer.

Try to not block any access points for natural light to shine into the kitchen itself. Draw back curtains or blinds so that you’re making full use of the natural daylight that you have available. Blocking out the light is easily done so look at what might be taking up the space near the windows or doors that are letting in the light.

Replace kitchen worktops

Kitchen worktops will see a lot of action on a daily basis, which is why you want to focus on these features when replacing or updating the space.

A new kitchen benchtop can really transform the space and is a great way to add a fresh feel to the room. When you’re spending money on kitchen countertops, you’re investing in durability and longevity. These are parts of the kitchen that don’t require replacing for at least a decade or more. As long as you look after them properly, that is. Take a closer look at your kitchen worktops and consider whether a replacement is required, or it just needs a partial update in areas of the room.

Invest in open shelving

Open shelving is a great way to help maximise the space you have available and to ensure all of the clutter in the kitchen has been optimised when it comes to organisation.

When you’re looking at shelving options, explore different lengths, shapes and designs that flow with the kitchen’s layout and functionality. With open shelving, everything is within view but not clutter up the space, nor does it feel too cramped either.

Store away clutter on surfaces

Storing away the clutter on your surfaces makes a big difference to how your kitchen looks and feels. The clearer your surfaces can be, the better, which is why you should aim to have any smaller appliances stored away in cupboards where possible.

Try to avoid leaving anything out on your worktops other than the essentials and again, these essentials shouldn’t be covering too much of your worktops. It’s important to make the most of your kitchen space available so with that being said, utilise these tips so that you can enjoy more from your kitchen in the years to come.
