If you’re someone who loves to connect with nature on the regular, then it’s good to have all of the necessary equipment, the right setup and activities to make sure you maximise that time spent away.

It’s always good to be able to disconnect from the internet and unplug from technology in general. Being able to immerse yourself in activities like wild swimming, birdwatching, or hiking can be a great way to enjoy the surroundings wherever you end up going.

With that being said, here are a few tips on how to make the most of a weekend in nature.

Choose the right setting

The right setting is crucial to making the most out of your nature experience. Visiting local nature reserves, for example, exploring woodland or coastlines for hiking and beachcombing, are all important when it comes to making the most out of the experience.

There are self-sufficient campsites and others that offer more in the way of amenities. It’s good to pre-plan these locations so to acquire a spot and to not be frantically trying to find somewhere last-minute.

Pick your adventures and activities

It’s good to figure out some sort of itinerary when it comes to adventures and activities you’ll plan. Consider kayaking, rock climbing, paddleboarding and orienteering as examples.

There’s a lot you can get up to when it comes to going on adventures out in nature, and plenty of unique experiences that you might not find on your doorstep.

Immerse yourself in relaxation mode

When you’re in nature, it’s all about relaxing, and so it’s important to find that mode in your brain and body where you can completely chill out. Find a quiet spot to read your current book or practice mindfulness to calm your mind, but do it by a nearby stream or at the top of a hill or mountain you’ve just hiked up.

Unplug completely

Unplugging completely is helpful when it comes to relaxing and fully immersing yourself in nature itself. Switch off your phone or leave it in your bag so that you can be in the present moment without any distractions.

With technology and social media taking up so much space in our daily lives, it’s good to unplug from them fully now and then.

Engage the senses

Going on a wildflower hunt, stargazing or going birdwatching is a great way to enjoy nature in all its beauty.

Try to connect with all of your senses, whatever it is you get up to when spending time in nature. It can really help you to become part of nature itself for a moment. From lighting some firewood and enjoying dinner under the stars, to smelling all of the local plants and flowers in the area.

Create comfort

While out camping, it can be good to bring some home comforts, like a blanket and outdoor slippers, so you can relax and feel comfy. All those home comforts can make the experience much more enjoyable, especially if you’re missing home at any point. This guide will help you make the most out of your fun-packed weekend in nature.
