In life, we can’t control what happens to us, but we can control how we respond. In today’s world, many of us grapple with the unpredictability of life, often feeling overwhelmed by stress and uncertainty. While we may not have control over external events, we can certainly influence our reactions. Enter the 369 Method – a manifestation technique that has taken social media by storm, particularly on TikTok. But what exactly is this method, and can it truly help you maintain a positive outlook?  By Dr. Maria-Elena Lukeides.

What Is the 369 Method?

The 369 Method is a manifestation technique that aims to harness the power of numbers to bring your desires into reality. It is rooted in the belief that numbers possess unique energies, with this method focusing on the numbers 3, 6, and 9 – deemed “divine” by the inventor Nikola Tesla. According to Tesla, these numbers hold the key to understanding the universe. As a result, followers of the 369 Method believe that by focusing on these specific numbers, they can supercharge their manifestation efforts. If you’re thinking this all sounds a little woo woo, you’re right! It certainly falls under a more spiritual technique, but from a psychological perspective, if something can help you to focus on your life goals in a positive way, it can only be a good thing.

The 369 Method has gained immense popularity on platforms like TikTok, where users have been sharing their success stories – ranging from financial windfalls to new relationships – claiming that the method has transformed their lives. Much like concepts found in “The Secret” or “The Law of Attraction,” the 369 Method encourages individuals to concentrate on their desires and visualise their attainment.

The Origins of the 369 Method

While Tesla’s influence looms large over this method, it was Karen Yee who popularised it in contemporary culture. Yee drew upon Tesla’s insights about numerology and combined them with modern manifestation practices. Tesla famously stated, “If you only knew the magnificence of the numbers 3, 6, and 9, you would have the key to the universe.” This quote has become a rallying cry for those seeking to unlock their potential through this numerical approach.

How Does It Work?

Implementing the 369 Method involves a straightforward yet disciplined routine:

1. Set Your Intention: Begin by identifying a specific goal or desire you wish to manifest. Whether it’s a new job or improved health, clarity and specificity are key.

2. Morning Affirmation (3 Times): Each morning, write down your desire three times. This initial act is said to set a positive tone for your day.

3. Afternoon Affirmation (6 Times): At midday, revisit your goal and write it down six times. This reinforces your intention and keeps your focus sharp.

4. Evening Affirmation (9 Times): Finally, before bed, write down your desire nine times. This step solidifies your commitment and allows your subconscious to absorb your intentions while you sleep.

The essence of this method lies not just in writing but also in visualising your goals as if they are already part of your life. By engaging emotionally with your aspirations during these writing sessions, proponents believe you can amplify your manifestation power.

Can It Help You Stay Positive?

As mentioned earlier, it does all sound a little woo woo, but in actual fact, the psychological underpinnings of the 369 Method align closely with positive affirmations, mental imagery and visualisation and emulation which have all been associated with positive outcomes in areas such as learning, performance, depression, anxiety.

Visualisations of success (reaching your goal, living happily, performing well in social or occupational situations, kicking that goal) activate the same parts of the brain as if it were actually happening and produce similar chemicals which then aid in forming new neural connections. This then leads to more positive feelings and greater confidence as well as potentially slight changes in behaviours and approaches to situations which then may aid in making manifest your wishes.

Not only that, but this practice is aligned with self-affirmation theory, which suggests that engaging in activities that reflect core values can bolster self-integrity. While many experts remain sceptical about the efficacy of methods like the 369 Technique (often dismissing them as pseudoscience) there are elements within these practices that can help to foster positivity and motivation. The act of writing down goals repeatedly serves as a powerful reminder of what one is striving for, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy effect. When individuals expect positive outcomes based on their affirmations and actions align with those beliefs, they are more likely to achieve their goals. For instance, if someone’s intention is to save $1,000 within three months using the 369 Method, they may become more mindful about spending and prioritise saving strategies – like opting for generic brands at the store or resisting impulse buys.

While there’s no scientific backing for the specific claims made by proponents of the 369 Method, its structure encourages goal-setting and positive thinking – two crucial components for personal development and mental resilience. The method provides a framework for focusing one’s thoughts and intentions in an organised manner.

Whether you view it as a spiritual practice or simply a motivational tool, many find value in engaging with their aspirations through techniques like the 369 Method. As long as individuals approach it with an open mind – and perhaps a sprinkle of scepticism – they may just find themselves more attuned to their goals and more capable of navigating life’s challenges with positivity and purpose. Let’s not forget that to date, research has shown that about 30 % of all benefits of medications and psychological interventions are placebo – that doesn’t diminish the effectiveness of meds but what it should reveal is the incredible power of our mind. While it may be pseudoscience for now there is absolutely no harm in this practice. In fact, it may even start to nudge us to start behaving increasingly in alignment with our goals and desires thereby shifting increasingly our fulfillment. Luck favours those that try!
