A Day in the Life of Kirsten Walker, Co-Founder and Director of Palm Beach Collection

As Co-founder and Director of Palm Beach Collection, Kirsten Walker has built a successful business from the ground up with her brother, Mike. Their beautiful products aim to provide a luxurious yet affordable range of hand-poured scented candles, reed diffusers, bath and aromatherapy products inspired by Australia’s coastal landscape.

Kirsten lives in Avalon on Sydney’s Northern Beaches with her Husband and two children. We catch up with her and find out what a day in her life looks like.

Morning Routine

My alarm wakes me at 5am to exercise, which I know sounds crazy! But to me it’s the best part of the day to take time to myself, to organise my thoughts and plan for the day ahead.

Home by 6:15 with coffee in hand ready for the rest of the family to wake up and start our morning routine. On the road to school by 8am, my husband Toby, myself and our dog Henry are all in the office by 8:30am.

During the Day Routine

For a day in the office my role is very varied – lots of meetings (over Zoom now due to COVID!), working on design aspects, creating new scents, marketing or general sales. We work in a small office team, with the rest of the business out on the road or in our warehouse, I pride myself on the environment that has been cultivated within our team, open communication, respect and always a bit of fun to be had! Some people might think that working daily with your husband and brother would be a challenge but we complement each other in skills and approach so it’s actually an asset to have all three of us look at things in our separate roles from different angles. Toby and I bring our lunch from home and always step away from our desks to eat out in the sunshine, we are lucky to have our office next to the water which makes for good incentive.

If the day permits, I like to be there to pick my kids up from school at 3pm. After school activities take up the time until dinner! Basketball, dancing, baseball, soccer and homework.

Evening Routine

We like to have dinner as a family. If I must answer a call or email during these hours my kids are old enough to understand now, this is a way of life that their parents have worked incredibly hard to provide for them. It’s important to me for my kids to see their Mum working, and to instil in them a strong work ethic. If you work hard, great things come.

After the kids go to bed, I’ll take a bit of wind down time with Toby, watch an episode of whatever great show we’re currently addicted to, or read a book. In summer maybe a night-time swim in our pool! I like to have a quiet moment of self-care before bed, using my favourite products, sometimes complimented by my current favourite product our “sleep” aromatherapy oil.

My head hits the pillow by 10, and I rest, ready for another busy day. Lucky we like to take the weekends slow!
