While there are many amazing places to view New York from high above, the observatory at the new One World Trade Centre (Freedom Tower) must be one of the most spectacular. Soaring 541 metres above the ground, this incredible building provides 360 degree views of Manhattan and surrounds. The observatory which is located on level 100 to 102 of the building, takes only 42 seconds to reach by lift. The lift ride itself is part of the adventure – as you are racing up to the top digital screens in the lift provide a 500 year visual journey of the site. We went at sunset in the middle of the week in winter, it was fairly quiet and peaceful at the top though we expect that summer, weekends and holidays may be much busier. To get a real sense of the sheer size of urbanised New York this is the perfect place.
ELE top tip- if you are visiting the Freedom Tower we recommend a visit to the very moving and emotional National September 11 Memorial & Museum located right nearby.
