Great Buildings of the World – The New York Public Library

A trip to New York wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the flagship building of The New York Public Library in Manhattan. This impressive Stephen A. Schwarzman building which has been the backdrop for iconic movie scenes in films such as Ghostbusters, The Day After Tomorrow and Sex in the City, is as beautiful in real life as it is on screen.

From the famous lion statues, Patience and Fortitude, that sit either side of the entranceway on iconic Fifth Avenue in the heart of Midtown, to the impressive and beautiful Rose Reading Room with its stunning ceiling in the library’s interior, this beautiful building is wonderful to explore.

The Library houses works and manuscripts from some of the most important authors throughout history and holds an original copy of the Declaration of Independence and a Gutenberg Bible.

The library is free to enter and is located in the heart of Midtown (42nd Street and Fifth Avenue), so if you are a lover of books, history, architecture or culture make sure to add the library to your NYC itinerary.
