Green Apple, Cheddar and Prosciutto Toasted Cheese Sandwich

This toasted cheese sandwich is so simple but perfect for lunch and fancy enough to serve up to a friend.

The addition of the crisp sweet green apple slices take this toasted cheese sandwich up an extra level and the gooey rich cheese says cosy comfort food. You could use a brie cheese too, if that’s what you have on hand. Prosciutto can be subbed for bacon but make it crispy first.

Green Apple, Cheddar and Prosciutto Toasted Sandwich (Makes 4 Sandwiches)

Ingredients

8 Slices sourdough bread
1 thinly sliced green apple
3 cups of grated cheddar cheese
8 slices of crisp cooked prosciutto (you can do this on baking paper in hot oven or in a dry frypan on the stove top)
Butter, for spreading
Sweet chilli jam, to serve

Method

Heat up your toaster oven or sandwich press.
Butter slices of bread and top four of them with cheese, crispy prosciutto and thin sliced green apple.
Pop the other slices of bread on top and butter the outside. Place the buttered side down on to the sandwich press and spread the top with butter. Grill until toasty brown and the cheese is melted.
Serve with a dish of sweet chilli jam on the side for dipping. Enjoy!
