Garden buffs looking for an easy day trip from Melbourne should consider heading to Mount Macedon and in particular the beautiful Forest Glade Gardens. Considered one of Australia’s finest private gardens, it covers fourteen acres on gently sloping land and hosts a large variety of exotic plants, fern lined walkways, manicured lawns and a Japanese garden. With fields of bluebells and daffodils in spring, stunning autumn scenery and masses of colour all year it is truly breathtaking. It also houses the Stokes Museum, which is home to a collection of art from the 19th and early 20th century. It is an easy one hour drive from the city and there are great dining and winery options in the area to truly make a day of it. ELE top tip- try and visit in Autumn when the leaves are changing, the Mount Macedon road winding up to the gardens is amazing!
