Three Inspiring Tips For Exercising Indoors

By Leanne Shelton

Are you self-quarantining right now – and itching to get back into your fitness regime?

Or freaking out about stay-at-home boredom when schools shut down until further notice?

The good news is, it IS possible to continue and encourage exercise when cooped up at home. It’s just a matter of thinking outside the box and trying new things.

Here are 3 inspiring tips for exercising indoors.

1. Dance, Dance, Dance!

Dancing is an effective way to get your heart rate going – while having fun at the same time.

Either pull out your old CDs or create a Spotify playlist with all your favourite tunes, then dance away like no one is watching. And if they are watching, encourage them to join in. This is an enjoyable activity for the whole family.

2. Create Your Own Exercise Circuit

If you’ve got the space, now is the perfect time to design a personalised at-home workout.

You could set up ‘stations’ for different exercises – such as push-ups, planks, burpees, lunges, and crunches. Add some strength by holding hand-weights or frozen water bottles.

Got stairs? Run up and down them. Got hula hoops? Pull them out and start spinning your way to awesome abs! Get creative and see what options are possible.

3. YouTube Workouts

There are plenty of workout routines across YouTube. Just search ‘workout’, ‘pilates’, or ‘yoga’ and try something new or check out our article with five of our favourite workouts here. It’s better than stockpiling fitness DVDs that will later collect dust on the shelf.

You’ll also find plenty OG kid-friendly options – making it easy for the whole family to get involved.

As you can see, it’s very possible to remain physically active while stuck indoors. Hopefully, we’ve inspired you with some new ideas to try!
